Liquid media containing antibiotics are typically prepared by adding the antibiotic solution to freshly autoclaved media cooled below 50°C. Antibiotic solutions can also be plated directly onto agar plates and spread evenly across the surface. Liquid media and agar plates containing antibiotics should be stored at 4°C for no longer than thirty days to maintain the drugs’ effectiveness. Unless otherwise stated, all antibiotic solutions can be prepared in sterile filtered, distilled water and stored at –20°C.
