Shaking and/or Heating Incubators
In order to provide optimal conditions for cell growth, some type of agitation or shaking is necessary to incorporate oxygen and evenly distribute nutrients throughout the culture media. This has traditionally been done by putting a shaker inside an incubator, but shaking incubators integrate both into a single unit. Shaking incubators are linear shakers contained inside an incubated enclosure. The platform oscillates horizontally within the enclosure whilst the samples are incubated at a stable, consistent temperature. Shaking incubators are suitable for test tubes, flasks, and Petri dishes. Mandel shaking incubators may be used for growth of just about any kind of cell including bacterial cultures, tissue cultures, and yeast.
